High blood pressure or hypertension affects about a third of all Americans. Uncontrolled and untreated high blood pressure can lead to serious health problems like stroke and dementia. Healthy kidneys are perfectly capable of regulating  blood pressure by adjusting the blood volume by conserving or eliminating water in the urine.  Unfortunately, processed and junk food, alcohol and over the counter drugs use can be detrimental for kidneys. To lower blood pressure doctors often prescribe very strong diuretic medicine. Bumetanide, Chlorothiazide and other drugs are diuretics that force the body to carry out liquid through urine, but they also remove very important minerals like sodium and potassium responsible for muscular movement. Such approach leaves the body weak, fatigued, and could cause leg cramps, weakness and even heart problems.  The side effects of these drugs often defeat their purpose.

But what if nature had a better solution to this issue as it is much wiser than us? What if we didn’t have to reinvent the wheel and could use the existing herbs?  One such wonderful herb is parsley.  Its use is practically countless.  Derived from two Greek word Petrose which means “rock” and selenium, an old name for celery, it has a very intriguing history.  Greek and Romans used parsley for ceremonial purposes only as it was associated with death and dying.  An expression “to be in need of parsley” indicated that death was near.  In Old Europe parsley was associated with bad luck, so one would have to be careful planting it.  Despite such bad reputation parsley found its way to the kitchen; it’s used to garnish and flavor various foods.  It’s a great beauty product as well.  Fresh juice applied to the face can open pores, brighten skin and diminish dark circles under the eyes.Parsley Juice  It’s a great source of folic acid, one of the most important B vitamins that helps strengthen the heart and cardiovascular system.  Folic acid is also indispensable for proper cell division, and therefore it’s incredibly important to prevent colon and cervix cancers as these two organs have very fast cell division.  Parsley is also one of the best herbal diuretics created by nature.  Being loaded with antioxidants, vitamins and minerals it helps the body expel extra liquid and yet retains and even replenishes it with vitamins K, A, C, B and various essential minerals.  It helps remove kidney stones, reduce edema(swelling) and treat urinary tract infections.  Parsley root can be used for stiff fingers, and inflamed joints.  The juice of parsley is a great blood tonic combined with celery, green apple and carrots.   Whether you use parsley in tea or use it to garnish your food I hope you’ll add it to your collection.
